“年轻时听一位老歌师讲过,那些信佛的和尚,死了之后,尸体用火烧,烧到最后,骨头和肉凝成一小块,据说便是精魂所在。”七爹喃喃自语,木板床上吱嘎响了一下,惊得翻飞的蝙蝠撞在屋心的椿树干上。“但是,我怕火,死了不入土,扔到火堆里烧成炭,冤孽啊!”

“你说的那个,叫舍利子,佛教和尚那一套。”磊鑫答道,心里却浮想联翩:是啊!七爹已不能唱了,难道就让长诗《铜旗谣》绝世了么?倘若能够像炼铜炼铁那样,将七爹整个躯体放在一个特制的炉子上冶炼,炼去肉体的杂质,剩下的物质便是歌的精灵了。将此精灵放到仪器上,便是像录音磁带那样放出声音来。虽然这是毫无根据的猜想,他知道。但他还是不能左右自己的思路,一任它海阔天空地想象下去。对,他的妻弟就是冶炼厂工程师,炼锰,炼铜,炼铝,不晓得能不能炼人?七爹的长歌,对磊鑫来说,太太重要了!人哪,经常梦寐以求某种东西,那他完全可以使自己的想像力结合占有欲产生出种种幻觉来。

而七爹,蔗渣般干瘦的七爹,却不知什么时候昏睡过去了,打着鼾——也许,山歌的韵律已经融进了他全部肌肤,连长短不一的鼾声也带着歌的节拍。当然,不是欢快的情歌,而是凄凉的苦吟,是遗憾的哀诉。

灯亮了,光焰如豆。谁也没注意,香椿树下坐着个枯槁的女人,身影一半在光亮里,一半在暗里。

她?!皱巴巴的脸像块松树皮,黄浊浊的眼珠像两点萤火,麻条般的头发毫无光泽,张开嘴时,稀稀落落的牙齿发出一股玉米粥的馊气。难道是她?二十年前圆脸蛋黑头发的勒娋——七爹的独养女儿,银铃似的歌喉,一唱,云停,风止,远近山冈默静谛听。黑水河一带的青年男子的眼睛全让她的歌吊住了,蜜蜂嗅到花粉味般追到那楞村,追到七爹麻栏前桄榔树下,要和勒娋对歌。勒娋呢,高傲得很,三下两下便将这些后生击败,然后,从木栏架前扔下几只玉米粉捏成的糍粑。“吃了糍粑粘喉咙,回去再学几年吧,想上我家楼上吃粥,不容易呢!”青春,真是女人的珍宝。

独有磊鑫例外,因为是省里来的“同志”,住到七爹家里,算是七爹有面子,村里边也挺荣光。磊鑫请勒娋唱山歌,自己用本本记录,一连记了七八天,收获颇丰。临行前一晚,他将自己的钢笔送给勒娋,勒娋呢,一定让他将笔别到她衣襟上。他先是害怕,继而又跃跃欲试,瞄了瞄,麻栏上无一人,七爹捧着竹节烟筒串门去了,只有一只猫,墙角瞪着非蓝非黄的眼睛。他一咬牙,鼓起了勇气,抖索着,将钢笔往勒娋土布衫襟上插。偏偏襟上的布扣子作怪,滑了一下,就在这时,他的掌根触及一个软绵绵的东西,纵然隔着一层土布衫,也能感触得到温柔而有弹性的团团。啊!他全身为之颤抖,心跳骤然停止,又骤然狂烈起来。一种不受脑子控制的行动爆发了——他狂热地一把搂住了她,搂得好紧。

她温存得像只小猫咪,就势把身子倚靠在他的胸前。时间凝固了,世界静止了,只有一种异样的热流滚过全身。但是,没半分钟,勒娋便受惊似的挣扎开来,双手交叉抱在胸前,倒退到泥墙边,喃喃自语:“不,不,不能……”

“莫怕!”磊鑫温存地说。人在这一瞬间是没有理智的,思维全成了一摊糨糊。况且,在省城,因为他写诗屡遭退稿,大学时交的女朋友也将他的求爱信退稿般退回。他苦闷,他失望,抑郁的感情迫切渴望得到短暂的宣泄。这种情绪支配下人的行动是难以理解的。他一步步朝勒娋走去,鼻孔呼哧呼哧冒着粗气,嘴里,还低声唱着一支刚学来的山歌:

心似箭来眼似梭,

哪个男儿手不多?

好像圩场买鸭子,

未讲成价先摸摸。
